Sunrise is a charming comfortable cottage parts of which date back to the 17th century. It has two bedrooms: a double (four poster bed) leading into a family Jack & Jill bathroom; and a downstairs twin bedroom. The lounge has TV and DVD, books, games, local information and a multi-burner stove. The kitchen is well-equipped and leads into a small hallway to the downstairs shower and toilet and to the sauna. From the kitchen table you can watch wildlife and the dark skies above the Nent valley. There is an enclosed garden.
At 1500 feet the views are spectacular and the cottage is well-placed for outings to Hadrian's Wall, the Lake District, mining museums, the South Tynedale Railway and many Roman forts and sites. Nenthead, a 20 minute walk, has a pub, community shop, bike shop and restaurant and the pretty cobbled town of Alston, 4 miles away, has a Spar, Co-op, fuel, butcher, health shop selling local cheeses, interesting speciality shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Message from the Owner

We have recently retired from running a Visit Scotland 4* 6 bedroom guesthouse and self-catering caravan on the west coast of Scotland. Prior to moving to Scotland we worked in a variety of places - mining, farming, teaching, admin roles in a number of industries, helping run a health food shop, raising children and then working in a centre for fieldwork and outdoor pursuits for a number of years.
We now live in the converted barn next door to Sunrise and are planning to convert part of the field into a garden. We have brought our bees down from Scotland so there is honey for sale but no vegetables as we have a plague of rabbits! The cottage is the original dwelling on this site and parts of it date back to the 17th century when we believe it was a bastle house.
